The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic form of the heartburn medication Nexium® to treat the condition.
The generic drug, marketed under the brand name Prilosec® was approved by the FDA in the United States in July 2000.
The generic is the same drug that was manufactured by AstraZeneca and marketed under the name Nexium, and was approved by the FDA in August 2000.
The generic is a brand name for omeprazole, a drug used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) that is also used to treat peptic ulcers. Prilosec® is the brand name for esomeprazole.
The drug is available as a capsule form.
The generic medication is available as a tablet.
The label on the generic tablet contains the drug content equivalent to 20 mg of omeprazole. The generic tablet contains 20 mg of omeprazole.
As with omeprazole, the generic tablet contains 20 mg of omeprazole.
